Yuji’s years of hibernation are finally ended when a group of soldiers from an
orbiting space colony called Second Earth are ordered to recover “sleepers”
around the Earth. Among them, the soldier Marlene Angel develops a strong bond
with Yuji over time. As Yuji and the soldiers try to escape Earth, Yuji meets
many of the humans still left there. The Blue eventually kill all the soldiers
except for Marlene, who is devoted to her duty to get Yuji to Second Earth. As
the story continues, Yuji falls into a deep depression as he sees the
destruction around him and his own inability to save those he cared about,
namely Joey and the girl in the settlement which was overrun by Blue when the
team tried to contact Second Earth. Eventually Yuji and Marlene come across
another group of soldiers from Second Earth.

At the academy Mari meets Hagino Senk?ji, the school idol and class rep.
Although Hagino is introduced as a calm and collected person, when she touches
Mari’s hand the viewer sees her freaking out and trying to strangle Mari. From
then on, Mari is torn between anger and attraction towards Hagino, who pretends
as if nothing had happened.
Unbeknown to Mari, Hagino is actually the captain of an alien battleship called
Blue, which is the vanguard of the invasion to Earth. The incident on the island
where Mari lived occurred when the crew of the ship and the island’s inhabitants
killed each other. The Blue was seriously damaged and hidden, and Hagino blended
into human society and continued her reconnaissance.
