The story is set in a neo-futuristic age, in which Tokyo has turned into the
world largest "jungle-polis" that absorbs carbon dioxide. A tower city called
Atlas houses the rich and privileged, and is the object of yearning of all that
are not allowed to enter. But Atlas also has ancient secrets which cause a
sudden whirl of events. Festooned by colorful characters such as a riotous
teenage girl, a child genius, a juvenile princess, a drag queen, a female
doctor, an army major, and an elderly gentleman and lady, SHANGRI-LA hard-core
world view plays out as an anime action saga.
A striking vision of Earth`s future from some of Japan`s foremost creative
talents, SHANGRI-LA is a tale of greed and division vs. bravery and the human
spirit. Set against the backdrop of a Tokyo cityscape turned into a teeming

Keita Ibuki is an independent and struggling freelance computer programmer who
had a chance meeting on one night with a high Mototsumitama named Kuro. He gives
her his dinner, a bowl of ramen, and tries to protect her when she is attacked
in an ambush by an unknown Mototsumitama. Keita loses his entire left arm during
the fight between the Mototsumitamas, but Kuro was able to save his life by
exchanging the decapitated arm with her own left arm since she has enhanced
healing abilities like all Mototsumitamas. This creates a contract between them,
which makes her more powerful than before. However, Kuro warns Keita that they
need to be together all the time in order to be at their strongest.

environment, but also protects her from harm. During a trip to space station
Pink Coral, unknown enemies from the junk planet Galapagos attack and destroy
the entire space station. Amuri survives being launched into space because of
her `Allergy`, but is picked up by the attackers. When the machines of Galapagos
attempt to destroy her, a girl named Suzu Ling Yunque shows up with a kimono-
like space suit designed from Amuri`s DNA. The suit lets her use her `Repulsion`
ability on a large scale. Amuri has lived her whole life unable to touch other
people, however, this cheerful and strange girl was not Repulsed upon contact.

becoming a pastry chef. When he was motorcycling down an inner city street and
becoming caught up in a shoot-out between a mysterious white-haired woman and a

group of four girls named Jo, Meg, Amy, and Sei in an effort to gather up enough
money to travel to France. The girls, ranging in ages of eleven to nineteen,
turn out to be pseudo-mercenary agents for a larger international group known as
